  • Hello Johnny. Good to have you with us. Today I will be interviewing you for my article. The topic is should the United States adopt a compulsory service model?
  • Hey, thanks for having me. Personally, I think we should adopt a compulsory service model it could help teach work ethic at a young age, we could progress more in the US with everyone involved, and it is beneficial to create opportunities for everyone to engage in acts of community service.
  • Yes. This same question was asked in a poll and the data shows that the younger people oppose the idea where as the older people favor the idea. This could be because the older people have already experienced most of their working years and they think a year of service would've benefited them. You might say that the younger people are the future but we see less people working now more than ever. A mandatory year of service could help their work ethic strengthen.
  • Interesting thoughts. Can you explain your ideas some more? What makes you think this?
  • Absolutely. In a New York Times article, a man was being interviewed and he explained how simply volunteering ended up making him very successful in the long run and it was the most inspiring thing he has ever been part of. I think that goes to show that if everyone got involved we could see major opportunity growth in the work force because people could find a way to do what they enjoy by helping others.
  • Would you say that a year of service could change someone's life?
  • Those are two good points however everyone would be able to choose what act of service they engage in/ They could pick whatever they are most interested in or would find the least miserable. As for the privacy of companies, I feel like if they are worried about the public finding out about something, they probably shouldn't be doing it in the first place. If young adults got involved in bigger corporations, I think it could lead to lower unemployment rates and a huge increase in the economy. More people would be working and that would overall benefit society.
  • What if people were to not put in effort and end up ruining things? Or what about the privacy and safety of businesses?
  • I will lastly point out that, as its not the only option, people who don't want to commit to the military for 4-8 years could serve their one year being involved that way. Over the years, the US military is shrinking in size so this could help it bring those numbers back up. Also in the famous speech given by former president John F Kennedy he talks about what we as citizens can do for our country. If we all put in effort, time, and ideas we could collaborate and make this country a better and safer environment.
  • You are making some very good points. Anything else you would like to add?
  • Awesome, thank you for having me. Can't wait to see what happens.
  • Alright, thank you Johnny! I love getting to discuss and hear your thoughts on this.
