  • Before the Second World War, the majority of black people became low- producers, workers in mines, domestics or employees. War-related employment was flourishing by the early 1940s, however most blacks haven't been given the best paying positions. They had even been discouraged from enlisting in the military.
  • I also want to go and fight for our country! Lets go and get our rights
  • When do we finally get civil rights, there is a war, I want to deffend the country!
  • President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 8802 on 25 June 1941 after thousands of blacks vowed to march in Washington and seek fair work opportunities. This opened national security positions and other government employment to all People regardless of their ethnicity, religion, colour or ethnic origin.
  • We are doing it!, we are thousands, we are getting our rights!
  • Colored people are now allowed to enter war when they want!
  • Throughout World War II, black men and women fought bravely, despite having endured racism and prejudice throughout their service. The Tuskegee Airmen smashed the race divide and were the first American black military regiment. Army Air Corps and received over 150 Flying Distinguished Flying Crosses.

  • This contrasted strongly with why America had joined the war to start with — to protect the nation's independence and equality.
