  • Infancy Stage: Basic Trust
  • The mother is providing food to her child. According to Erik Erikson, if the infant will realize that their mother is giving them food on a regular basis they started to learn basic trust.
  • Scene 1
  • "Hi baby, here's your food."
  • In this scene , the child is crying and as she constantly hear the comforting and reassuring voice of her mother the infant develops a greater level of basic trust.

  • “Don’t worry baby. I’m here, Mommy is here for you”
  • The mother was doing something in the kitchen when her child started to cry, seeking for her mother’s attention and presence.

  • The mother continues to do what she’s doing and ignoring her child, the infant keeps crying. As the mother neglected her child, the infant can develop a basic mistrust to her mother.

  • The pleasurable and painful experiences of infants need to be balance because too much trust will makes them gullible while too much mistrust can leads to anger, frustration of a child. Based to Erik Erikson’s theory, having a balance formation of basic trust and basic mistrust towards to a child will enable the infant to attain a better personality development.
