  • Isabella Bomfree was born into slavery in New York, 1797. She was bought and sold 4 times. She had her first child out of 5 when she was a teen. 
  • She escapes to her freedom and starts helping the poor in New York. She later changes her name for a new mission, "God calls me to travel, speaking as Sojourner Truth"
  • Even though Sojourner Truth didn't go the the Seneca falls convention she still gave speeches at a womens rights event in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1850 and a womens rights conference in Akron, Ohio in 1851. Susan B Anthony was there to support Sojourner's speech.
