- Budda was named Siddhartha Gotama, and born in a town called Lumbini, India, near Nepal, about 2500 years ago
- The Four Signs
- Before and after Budda's birth, there were signs that he would be important. His Mother, Queen Maya had a special dream, which meant Budda would be important.
- Quest For Enlightenment
- Once I find enlightenment I will return!
- The King did not want to see his son Siddartha (Buddha) suffering, so he lived a life filled with luxury, and was sheltered from the outside world. He got everything he wanted, and eventually married Princess Yasodhara.
- Living As A Holy Man
- Despite the King's attempts to protect Siddartha (Buddha) from the harsh world, one day he went out and saw an old man, a sick man, a funeral, and a beggar. This made him realise how lucky he was and how cruel the world could be.
- Siddartha was sad after the seeing the four sights. So, the day after his son was born, Siddartha left home because he thought it was best, and as soon as he reached enlightenment, he would return.
- .... we have a baby?!?
- He had no money, clothes or luxury. He ate little and near death, he realised this was not the answer. He decided that a middle way was better than extreme luxury or extreme poverty.
