- On the fifth day, as Ponyboy and Johnny were sleeping Dally from their elite group. He showed up and surprised them. Ponyboy was so excited, and Dally decided to take them to get ice cream.
- Chruch Fire
- Dally had decided to take them to Dairy Queen that all juveniles went to because it was very popular and because since the boys had not eaten and neither had Dally, he had taken them there.
- The Dangerous Rescue
- Dally, Ponyboy, and Jonny are on their way back to the church to go get their things they had noticed smoke from far away. At first, they were bewildered. Then, as they got closer, they noticed that the smoke was coming from a fire coming from the church.
- Johnny's Injury
- Dally, Ponyboy, and Johnny hastily raced to the church they noticed kids everywhere. At first, they did not know what was going on, but when a teacher with a worried expression and had a cowlick approached them and explained that a fire broke out, but there were still kids inside.
- As Ponyboy gallantly runs into the church he sees all the flames. The boys try saving all the children, but as the church is about to collapse, Johnny gets hit with and is rushed to hospital. Meanwhile Dally was injured a little and Ponyboy was knocked unconscious when Dally slapped fire off of him.
- At the hospital Ponyboy reunites with his brothers, but they are very worried for Dally and Johnny. When the doctors finally tell them what's wrong, they are miserable. Johnny had broken his back when a brick fell on him and fell into coma, while Dally just burned his arm.
