  • Hmm..Why do I feel so hot when I get close to my cup of tea?
  • Let me ask Mr.Scientist.
  • Meanwhile...
  • When I touch this pan, I get a burn, but not on the handle. Why?
  • Let me ask Mr.Scientist.
  • Hello, My Friends!
  • We have noticed some strange things in our house.
  • Whenever I get close to my cup of tea, I start to feel hot.
  • This is because of convection. Convection occurs when air/ liquid causes the heat to rise up, leading to you feeling warmer.
  • I get a burn when I touch my pan, but not when I touch its handle. Why?
  • This is because of conduction. Conduction occurs when heat gets transferred directly through conductors. Here, metal - which your pan is made up of, is a good conductor. But, this does not happen with insulators like plastic - which your handle is made up of.
  • Now you have learnt the various ways heat can transfer.
  • Thanks, Mr.Scientist!
