After the battle against the kingdom of Kalinga, Ashoka saw the destruction and decided that he wanted peace and no more violence.
After the blood shed and the change of heart, Ashoka became a Buddhist. He also encouraged is subjects to follow him in his decision of conversion. Now instead of the great conquer, he is a calm and caring Buddhist follower
He built many worshiping places around his state. He spread peace and prosperity everywhere he went.
He built many farms to support agricultural needs.
Because of Ashoka, people had a choice of what religion they wanted to follow. He changed from war fighter, to peace spreader.
