Allegory of the cave
Storyboard Text
- A group of prisoners have been confined in a cave, they have never left darkness, with no knowledge of the outside world. They do not even desire to leave their prison, for they know no better life. Puppeteers controlled the shadows on the wall, only showing the things they want the prisoners to see.
- One day, one of the chains broke, freeing one of the prisoners.
- The chain fell off?! I'm free?
- The prisoner discovers the way out of the cave. The prisoner is amazed by everything. Gradually his eyes adjusts and he encounters true forms of those things had initially know as shadows.
- Out of compassion, the prisoner decides to return to the cave and help out the other prisoners who are still in error.
- Unfortunately, the other prisoners got sarcastic and angry, they even plotted to kill him.
- Application: I believe that this story applies to philosophers as well as I. I was like one of the prisoners trapped in the cave. Being born in a Christian family, I have never had my personal belief, I believed because my family did. I looked at the parts of the Bible my parents, my church showed me. But I never looked at the Bible in my own perspective. Just like how the prisoners looked at what the puppeteers wanted them to see. But as I started focusing in Bible class and studying the word of God often, I was able to see evidence while changing my worldview. I started building my foundation of faith. As well as how the prisoner got out of the cave, seeing the reality. I would not be able to see what I see now without learning and analyzing the word of God. The rest of the story cannot be applied to me right now. However, I have the confidence that once I have a sturdy foundation/ready for any questions about God, I will go back to the "cave" and spread the word of God to those who are blinded by the false reality even if I will be disliked by the people I am trying to help.
