- Yes, my parents shifted here to find a new job. By the way, my name is Tijia. What is your name??

- I lived in a village, named Hardas.
- So did you have a similar administrative system there than we have here??
- No it was quite different. Our village was divided into wards and those who were a part of the gram sabha had to choose a ward member also known as Panch. The Sarpanch is elected by the panchs. And we had to tell our problems to these people and they would sought them out. For eg- if a land dispute takes place, a person can report about it to the Gram Pnachayat but they can also report about it to the police and then the SHO sends a constable.
- But, every police station has an area that comes under its control. Everyone that lives in that area can inform the police about any theft, accident etc. Tehsildars supervise the work of Patwaris. They also have to hear disputes. Main work of district collectors is keeping a track on the patwari, collection of land revenue, maintenance of land records and land reforms, collection of income tax etc. We also have different services like - Post office, Banks, Police Station and many more but we don't have any malls, restaurants because we don't need them. Why don't you tell me about yours??
- Municipalities provide us different amenities and since providing so many services also requires a lot of money, Municipalities collects this money in the form of TAX. Our city is also divided into wards. But the person elected is called ward councillor in Municipal Councils but called corporators in Municipal Corporation. The complicated decision which affect everybody living in the area are taken by groups of councillors who form committees. Committees act as a link between the common people and the municipality. A new thing has come up nowadays and its called sub-contracting. Earlier cleaning drains and collecting garbage was a duty of government workers but now, its done by private companies in order to save money. These people are paid less and their jobs are temporary.
