- Welcome, Receiver of Memory.
- Do not apologize. You are now the Receiver.
- The Giver begins to explain his purpose in society.
- It is my job, such as it was to the Receiver before me, and even the Receiver before him . . .
- . . . in short, I must transfer all of our ancestor's memories to you.
- But you wouldn't understand that- not yet! Unless . . ?
- These memories seem to weigh me down- as if I am sledding through thick snow.
- Lie down and I shall show you sledding!
