- 2.This cartoon represents the positives of imperialisms to the Europeans as it shows europe imperializing Africa and the increase in nationalism
- 1. This cartoon represents the negative effects of imperialism as it shows the European spheres of influence in China. It clearly shows how China's economy has become dependent of Europe due to the illegal opium trade which served two purposes. It hindered the population as they became addicted to the drug and therefore stopped being able to work. This caused the country to lose power as its citizens found it difficult to work and lacked the motivation. Opium trade also hurt the Chinese economy as when the people became addicted to the drug they were desperate to get more which led to them giving all of their money to Britain. This is shown in the cartoon as the dragon (China) is surrounded by the smoke of opium and is sleeping as the man (Europe) takes all of its gold (money and power).
