Storyboard Text

  • The other day I went to buy fish for dinner, I asked the market owner for a plastic bag but she jokingly replied,"it's already inside!" I laughed but with a confused look on my face, what did he mean by this?
  • I arrived home and started doing some research regarding the impacts of plastic pollution on food chains and humans, what I found was very interesting.
  • Only 9% of plastic is recycled, meaning the other 91% is in landfills and in natural environments and animal habitats. This plastic can injure animals such as birds and pollute their environment.
  • Tons of plastics end up in the oceans, they are difficult to get rid of and break down into micro plastics or even nano plastics. So much of this gets ingested by marine animals and is passed around the food chain. We eventually consume this plastic when eating fish.
  • The effects of plastic on humans include:- vision failure/irritation in eyes- respiratory problems- headaches and unconsciousness- coughing and swelling of the throat- lung problems/vomiting/indigestion- birth defects and infertility
  • Everyone can do their part by doing simple things such as recycling, using reusable coffee cups and disposing of their rubbish correctly so less of it ends up in our natural environment and animals.
