Storyboard Text

  • France's economy plummeted under the poor leadership of King Louis XVI, whose solution to the issue was to raise taxes for the 3rd estate. Among those, was Amée Laurent, a washerwoman, and wife, and a mother. Though she didn't normally involve herself in politics, now that she was a mother, she felt that she had to do everything in her power to ensure her children a better future—these high taxes and high bread prices could not go on.
  • These bread prices are preposterous! We have to do something
  • 3rd estate members started taking matters into their own hands by forming a National Assembly to fight for their rights and equality. Ameé decided to take action as well, and on the morning of October 5, 1789, she joined 7,000 other women in the March on Versailles.
  • No more taxes!!
  • As the revolution grows, so does the radicalism of the revolutionaries. Violence and chaos worsens, marking the beginning of the period known as the Reign of Terror, and ordinary people are left fearing for their lives. Caught amongst this is Amée's husband, who is executed for treason.
  • My dear husband, I wish I could grieve you properly...but I have to stay impartial, so as to keep our children safe. The Revolution cannot take any more victims from our family!
