  • King Louis XIV Becomes King
  • Well we won't be doing well with another one of these rulers, we practically have no rights, and still barely any food

  • Louis XIV is crowned king by the Divine Right of King and the poor and middle class will continue to be taxed while the Church and Nobles live their life without being taxed, and enjoy their freedom.

  • The natural disaster ruining France's supply of wheat impacted the poor greatly because they had no food leading to the starvation of many because food prices had risen because of the shortage of wheat and decrease in bread production.

  • The King calls and Estates-General where each estate makes a list of complaints, the Third Estate could never make the rules they wanted because they were always outraged by the other two estates.

  • In June of 1789 the Third Estate renamed themselves the National Assembly after their meeting hall was taken. They were forced to meet in a Tennis Court and there they agreed they would meet anywhere until their rights were met.
  • On July 14, 1789 the National Assembly broke into the Bastille thinking they would find guns and ammunition but instead they freed the prisoners. The Bastille represented the awful monarchy in France and when they broke in, it represented how the French weren't going to follow these unjust rulers with no rights. This day marks France's Independence Day.
