  • Yes of course, we will raise him like our own son.
  • Can you take care of this child I can't care for him.
  • King Lais ordered his servant to hang his son Oedipus by the feet. The servant would not leave the child so he took him off the rope.
  • The servant brought the child to a shepherd, so the shepherd cared for the child.
  • "Man: as an infant, he crawls on all fours; as an adult, he walks on two legs; and in old age, he uses a walking stick."
  • "What walks on four feet in the morning, two in the afternoon, and three at night?"
  • The shepherd was no longer able to care for the child, he brought the child to King Polybus and Queen Merope. The king and queen adopted Oedpus and cared for him as their own child.
  • Oedpus was leaving to go to Thebes but on his way there he ran into his dad and killed him because he was defending himself.
  • Sphinx will not allow Oedpus to continue his journey until he gets a riddle correct. He got it correct on the first try and was allowed to continue his journey.
  • Queen Jocasta finds out she is married to her son and kills herself. After she dies Oedpus stabs his eyes out. He than walks around in the desert and than dies in Colonus.
