  • This is Henry Ford, the founder of one of the first automobile companies in America.
  • Born in 1863, Ford grew up on a farm in Dearborn, MI, which is very close to Detroit.
  • Ford did not go to college, but instead became an engineer for the Edison Illumination Company in Detroit, where he became interested in engines and completed his first gasoline engine in 1893.
  • Ford completed his first automobile, called the Quadricycle in 1896, and organized the Ford Motor Company in 1903.
  • Some of the main things Ford is known for is his company's mass assembly line, and becoming one of the first companies to pay their workers a minimum wage of $5.00, which was more than double of what the industry average was at the time. These factors that Ford implemented led to the Ford Motor Company being one of the most successful car companies in the world.
  • In his later years Ford was against WW1 and WW2, but he used his factories anyway to support the US when they entered those wars. He died in 1947 and passed the company to his son.
