- PeninsularMalaysiawas unified as the Malayan Union in 1946. Malaya was restructured as the Federation of Malaya in 1948 and achieved independence on 31 August 1957. Malaya united with North Borneo, Sarawak, and Singapore on 16 September 1963 to becomeMalaysia. In 1965, Singapore was expelled from the federation.

- Who founded Malaysia?
- This was the first colonial claim on what is nowMalaysia. The son of the last Sultan of Malacca, Sultan Alauddin Riayat Shah II fled to the southern tip of the peninsula, where hefoundeda state that which became the Sultanate of Johor. Another son created the Perak Sultanate to the north.
- Malaysia is a Southeast Asian country occupying parts of the Malay Peninsula and the island of Borneo. It's known for its beaches, rainforests and mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian and European cultural influences. The capital is Kuala Lumpur.
