- Certainly not! I, Harold Godwinson is surely the one who must become king
- No you dont. I, William, Duke of Normandy is the one worthy of the throne
- I am Harald Hardrada and I deserve the throne

- Since the passing of King Edward in 1066, there were three men who claimed the throne since Edward did not have any children.
- Many English lords did not accept him as king

- He had to take control of London quickly

- When Harold Godwinson was king, William the conqueror wanted to meet him on top of Serlac Hill, William and Harold ended up starting the Battle of Hastings.
- In the end, King Harold died which leads to william becoming king.
- All the land belongs to the king!!!
- But when William was King, he faced many problems. Such as these
- There was a threat of invasions from Scandinavia
- He needed to collect taxes
- The Feudal system was introduced to England when the Normans invaded England. It was a simple, but effective system, where all land was owned by the King
- Feudalism in England determined the structure of society around relationships derived from the holding and leasing of land.
