When I was about five or six, I was enrolled in piano lessons with my brother. I enjoy piano, but the lessons were boring and I did not understand why I had to do the baby things and do little warmups.
I got tired of doing my lessons so I convinced my parents to let me quit, and I still played on my own time.
In fourth grade I got the opportunity to play the violin in my schools orchestra. We weren't very good but it was still fun to do.
Once I got to fifth grade, we got to participate in band as well. I moved to playing flute and had a hard time reading notes above the staff. My teacher gave me music that was notated for Oboe, so that I could read the notes easier. I continued this through all of middle school.
In ninth grade I joined choir. I had always loved to sing, but never had the confidence for it. I stayed in choir with Mrs. J for all four years of school, and moved up through the levels. Getting into the second best my sophomore and junior year, and then the advanced choir senior year.
Because of Mrs J, and my want to teach, I am now double majoring in music education and elementary education. She gave me the confidence I needed to go forward, and now I am here, in many music classes, and in the advanced choir.
