- Reproduction And Genetic Code
- Hello! My name is Gus., I'm a wood frog and I have the ability freeze and stay alive!
- I have the ability to do this because when my parents had me they passed don their genetics down to me.
- Growth And Evolution
- I've grown from a small egg to an adult frog. With growing I started to use this ability to survive freezing tempatures I have from evolution in my species
- Stimulus
- When it's starts to get cold my brain sends a signal and my body's response is to start this process so I survive the cold.
- Winter is coming and the wood frog is about to start the process of making its own anti-freeze.
- Metabolism
- This ability was gained from evolution to be able to survive the harsh winters the wood frog has to go through.
- Cells and Homeostasis
- Once the temperature reaches a certain point the frog sits in one spot to start the process.
- After Winter.
- The frogs liver starts to produce more glucose and infuses its urine with its blood to make its own antifreeze
- When this proccess starts my body infuses my urine and blood together to make an antifreeze. My body also makes my liver produce more glucose to start this process.
- While the frog starts to freeze the water in its cells starts to be sucked out. The frog's body keeps the cell's water above 60% because if it goes below, the process will not be reversible.
- My body starts to freeze and the water in my cells are beign sucked out so the antifreeze I made makes sure to keep 60% of the water in thm because if it goes below 60 the proccess is irrevisable.
- Once winter is over the frog starts to defrost and the process is reversed. Then the frog begins to look for a mate.
- After Winter I start to defrost and start to be more active. Once I'm completley unfrozen I go and look for a mate!
