Storyboard Text

  • Legislative Branch: The LawmakersThis branch has the House of Representatives and Senate in it. They introduce bills, serve on standing committees, pass state laws, can override the governor's veto, judge member election qualification, can expel members, respond to the needs and concerns of constituents, and can impeach and convict members of executive and judicial branches.
  • Executive Branch: The AdministratorsThe Executive Branch has five constitutional officers. The Governor is the head of the branch. The Lieutenant Governor takes over for the governor. The Secretary of State acts as a chief election official and a custodian of official records. The State Auditor monitors financial affairs. The Attorney General provides legal services and represents the state in court cases. 
  • Judicial Branch: The JudgesThe Judicial Branch has three levels. One level is the Supreme Court, they hear appeals on certain decisions, regulate state courts, and oversee law planning. Another level is the Court of Appeals, they hear appeals from lower courts and dministrative agencies. The last branch is the District Court, they only hear civil claims of damages up to $7, 500.
