  • When food is chewed your saliva helps break down what you're eating and turn it into chemicals called enzymes.
  • After your food is all broken down, it moves through the esophagus. The food moves more smoothly and can travel in a single direction to your stomach!
  • Your stomach is where your food is stored and then broken down by very powerful enzymes and stomach acid. This is when your food moves next to the small intestine.
  • The small intestine, this is where 90% of digestion and absorption of food occurs. The main job of the small intestine is absorption of nutrients and minerals from your food!
  • And lastly, the food goes through the large intestine, colon, rectum and anus. The colon is responsible for processing waste. It takes about 36 hours for stool to get through the colon and exit the rectum through the anus.
  • Which is why we use the toilet!
  • Woah! I didn't know my body can do all that! That's so cool!
