- On september 13, 1848 Phineas leads a line in order to create a railroad track in Cavendish, Vermont.
- ¨Phineas turns his head to glance over his right shoulder. The fat end of the tamping iron slips down into the hole and strikes the granite. A spark flies onto the exposed blasting powder. Blam!¨(Fleischman, 5)
- ¨See the pointy end of the rod enter under his left cheek-bone, pass behind his left eye, through the front of his brain, and out the middle of his forehead¨(Fleischman, 6)
- The rod goes through a cheek, behind one eye, and through a part of his frontal lobe.
- within only months Phineas Gage is able to walk. talk and work as normal.
- Changes happening in Phineas shows which part of the brain controls different things. Before his injury, Phineas was a friendly, kind man. After his injury he became a rude and aggressive person. He is now unreliable not even showing up for work.
