- The Mountain Men were fur trappers who used their skills to survive and explore the Oregon area. They made trails and forts and lead settlers across the mountain trails to Oregon. 
- Mexican-American War
- Who should i choose?
- The Oregon Trail allowed thousands of people to settle in lands that would eventually become a part of the US. Traveling was not easy many faced rough terrain, disease, starvation, exhaustion, and death.
- Mormons in Utah
- This is the perfect place to settle!
- Americans thought that their government and culture was better than others. Also that god told them that and it was their God-given destiny to spread across North America. The idea "justified" their invasion of the west.   
- California Gold Rush
- Americans annexed Texas which upset Mexico who didn't see Texas as a US territory, so America fought a 20 month war and gained California, New Mexico, and Arizona. 
-  Mormons were persecuted very badly for their religion in the east, so they decided to move to the west for refuge. Thousands of Mormon men, women, and children built a settlement that charmed many other Americans west. 
- Gold was found in the California rivers in 1848 which started 4 years of gold hunting. People from all over came to get rich quick, not just Americans. Thousands of people settled there and helped California become a state.
