Storyboard Text

  • On June 28, 1914, Serbian nationalist Nedeljko Gabrinovic, who is angry with Austria's agression towards Serbia, throws a grenade at Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand's car while the Archduke is going to the town hall of Sarajevo. Ferdinand survives the attack after he manages to duck out of the way and avoid the grenade.
  • I hope we can leave this place quickly, I don't want to be attacked again.
  • After arriving at the town hall, Ferdinand, his wife Sophie, and Count Franz von Harrach leave the town hall in Ferdinand's car after General Potiorek advises them to leave the city for their own safety.
  • Death to the Austrian tyrants!
  • After the first unsuccessful assassination attempt, another assassin, Gavrilo Princip, who was working with Gabrinovic, shoots two shots with a pistol at Archduke Ferdinand and his wife Sofie at point-blank range.
  • Ahh!
  • Sophie, Sophie, don't die. Stay alive for the children!
  • After both Ferdinand and Sophie are shot, Sophie cries out , "For God's sake! What has happened to you?" and falls between Ferdinand's knees while Count von Harrach tries to help the Archduke.
  • Sophie's fine, she just fainted. I need to help Ferdinand before he dies!
  • The officers capture Princip and attack him, hitting him with the flat ends of their swords and kicking him.
  • Archduke Ferdinand and Sophie are brought into the governor's home, where they are pronounced dead after each being shot only once.
