Hello and welcome to Mohenjo-Daro! The people of this great city lived in houses much like these. They were mostly equal sizes, and had equal access to clean water and sanitation. Now on to the next cell!

Introduction ro Mohenjo-Daro:

Built in 2400 B.C. on the Indus River

Hi

What was unique about Mohenjo-Daro was the fact that they had the first sanitation system. Showers and toilets were both made within each home, which was a first. The waste from the toilet was drained down through pipes under the city and was disposed of properly. What an amazing feat for the time! On to the next cell!

Another amazing feat of Mohenjo-Daro engineering was the Great Bath, said to be the "earliest public water tank in the world". The Great Bath was believed to be used for ritual bathing. On to the next cell!

The seal of Mohenjo-Daro was believed to be used for "marking goods and closing documents". The use of the seal provides evidence of a long distance trade network. The animal on the seal was at first thought to be a unicorn, but was later thought to be a bull. On to the next cell!

Mohenjo-Daro had distant trade routes and that is how it obtained some of its more rare products. Mohenjo-Daro traded with Iran and Afghanistan for minerals, India for lead and copper, and Jade from China. These were all traded through rivers much like the one I am on now. Thank you for adventuring with me through Mohenjo-Daro! I hoped you learned something on this adventure!

The water was used to purify and renew the well being of the bathers.
