- It is my boss's fault that I got fired.
- John was experiencing symptoms of fever for the past few days, so he decided to get it confirmed by visiting the doctor. To his surprise,the doctor diagnoses him with Cancer, but he denies the claim despite an ample amount of evidence because it was too much for him to handle.
- Sublimation
- Luke's girlfriend recently broke up with him due to a difference in opinion in how to advance their relationship. Because Luke could not vent out at his ex-girlfriend, Luke vents his anger and sadness out by punching a punching bag.
- Regression
- Sorry, I am going to leave now, I am not comfortable around fires.
- John recently got fired from his job because he gave his boss constructive criticism on how to run his company better. Unable to handle that it is his fault, John attributes his firing to his boss.
- Tim barely studied for the Math Test and got the lowest score in the whole class. Instead of taking this in a negative light, he decides that he is going to study super hard this time and get the highest score in the class.

- Sarah lost her father in a fire accident when she was twelve years old. Whenever she sees a fire, she immediately feels anxious and has a condescending feeling that something bad is about to happen.
