  • Things are getting very bad...
  • Ugh I cant take this anymore the river keeps drying up and the food has all but ran out.
  • I am scared too everyone school keeps talking about how things are getting bad in the city too.
  • The more time passes the more dangerous things get too. I wish we could just move away.
  • What will we do

  • Things aren't terrible yet so lets move before they become irreversibly bad. New Zealand has alot of jobs and better education.
  • You are not wrong I heard so too. I am sure we can well up all our savings and move. It will be better for our son too. It not as if we want to become refugees.
  • I am scared... How will things play out
  • What this is so sudden! How will we manage the village barely has any hand to begin with. Not only that but you wife helps with food
  • We will probaly be leaving .
  • This is so scary I heard in school that in those contries they might look down on us. And that things might be dangerous. I dont wanna move awayyy!

  • Jifan and his wife, Sita, and son, Gawa, are distressed by the current state of affairs in their country and village. Resources are running out, not to mention in the capital there are political disputes on who should be staying in the country. Certain groups are trying to get rid of indigenous people like Jifan and his family. Jifan is very educated and skilled man so he knows that with his skills his family can do better.
  • Learning
  • International migration of skilled professionals represents both brain gain and brain drain for the countries that benefit from their knowledge and expertise.
  • Jifan and his wife are considering their options for moving; all the push and pull factors. As the political situation in their country becomes more heated. They would rather go through voluntary migration than forced to seek asylum if something bad transpires. Meanwhile, their son wonders how different and difficult life may become if they actually move away.
  • Moving

  • Jifan tells the village elder that they are thinking of moving away. The elder is shocked because the village will lose a lot if the family leaves. In the meantime, Gawa goes to tell his friends that he is moving. Gawa is very scared of moving cause he heard about discrimination in 1st world country. His friend knows that it is a good opportunity; she wants to teach him so that he will understand not be so afraid.
  • And a happy ending
  • This is nice. We have stable jobs, a nice house, and plenty of food and water.
  • Sita packing away the house. She is very happy to be moving because she is thinking of a better life. And Gawa's friend is teaching him about how immigration works. He learns that the country will like him because the country will be getting a skilled worker like his father and that he will have more necessities. Gawa's friend also tells him that she will be sad about him leaving because they will lose hands around the village.
  • I need to use the bathroom...
  • After saying goodbye to their village and old life Jifan and his family are finally moving with extra help from their relatives who also live in New Zealand. Sita is very excited although her son is still scared. He thinks of all the things his smart friend told him but he worries a lot still.
  • I cant wait to get their. I just hope we aren't a burden to our relatives helping us.
  • Six months have passed and Jifan his family are safe and thriving in their new home of New Zealand. The situation in their original country is getting worse. Jifan is thinking of helping his friends in his village chain migrate here as well. Jifan's wife is also looking forward to maybe opening a restaurant in the future too. Gawa is very happy at his new school and but hopes to see his old friends again soon.
  • Today at school. We did show and tell.
