  • What was going on from the 50s-2000s during each decade?
  • Who or what was an influential band or singer during any decade and why?
  • What feelings did they have while being so influential during the decade they were influential in?
  • Starting in the 50s the Korean War started between North and South Korea. In the 60s, Kennedy was elected as the US's 35th president and the Cuban Missile Crisis is brought to light. Next in the 70s, the two big events were the Watergate Scandal and the Vietnam War. Continuing, in the 80s and 90s Ronald Regan is elected as president and the Columbine Shooting takes place in Colorado. Lastly, in the early 2000s the 9/11 attack takes place On September 1st, 2001.
  • How did the Americans feel toward the singer or band during this decade?
  • During the 70s and 80s one very influential singer was Freddie Mercury and he is still remembered to this day. Not only was he an incredible musician ,but he was also the lead signer of the band Queen. One of the most influential gigs he preformed at along with other bands was Live Aid back in 1985. With over 1.9 billion people just estimated to be watching the concert on their TVs this concert was a huge launching point for Queen. Even from the 1970s the band Queen is still active today even with some of their members being deceased.
  • Did the Americans, signer or band shift their culture in anyway?
  • Freddie himself loved to put on a show for his viewers and the press. He was known for his vocal range; although, above all his looks since he had such a huge over bite that he kept in fear of loosing his range. He always felt at home making music and being his crazy self. He didn't really care what people thought of him or his music. Although the popularity and hate fueled his ego as some people believed.
  • What was the support behind the signer or band like during this time? How did it impact them?
  • Although his image was seen and different and refreshing many also did not enjoy it. Even his band mates enjoyed his company as well. Many people did not like his image on stage or the way he presented himself to others. This became an issue especially after he made a statement confirming he tested HIV positive. Although after he kept continuing preforming and showing the world that although he was going through a tough time it would not drag him down.
  • Not only was he a very talented musician his diverse outlook and out ward appearance expanded the minds of the music community and in turn the culture. His crazy self and the way he presented himself helped diversify the culture too. Not only did he embrace his own outward appearance but femininity as well. The band Queen helped bring forth a new type an genre of music and bands. He helped so many different people embrace the arts and helped them enjoy what they love doing.
  • Not only has Freddie brought light to different people but also causes. He was often very generous to charities and in turn other singers and bands followed. He also created his own foundation to help others in need not just his supporters. There is still performances being held today and there is still music and merchandise being sold. For Freddie Mercury the money didn't matter the people did.
