  • For example, he alluded to Jefferson's Declaration of Independence saying how all Americans, despite the color of our skin, were all protected by the same laws, however, many years later, we have been stripped of those rights and that promise of equality has been broken.
  • MLK also refers to the freeing of the slaves all the way back in 1863. He states that even though the African slaves were freed 100 years before he had delivered his speech, the African American people still did not have equal rights. 
  • MLK uses many allusions to help convey his point of how the African American community has been fighting for their rights for many, many years.
  • All of the inequalities back then all contribute to the injustices and systemic oppression that the black community faces today since unfortunately, the government hadn't done much to repair much of the damage that Jim Crow did, even after they were abolished.
  • You know, I've learned a lot from what you two and Rayan have taught me about the inequalities that many group, not only in the U.S, but around the world, have faced. I've learned that these inequalities still impact these groups even today. Now I have so many things I can write about for my project. Thanks Jackie for teaching me so much about our history.
