Hi Guys! I'm your substitute teacher for today. I am Ms. Grey. You guys will be learning about photosynthesis.
Ok so for those of you who don't know.
Photosynthesis isthe process by which green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide and water. Photosynthesis in plants generally involves the green pigment chlorophyll and generates oxygen as a byproduct.
Two words make up photosynthesis. And that is photo and synthesis . Photo means light and synthesis means putting together.
So in photosynthesis there are two stages and they are: Light Dependent Reaction and Light Independent Reaction
Stage 1: Light Dependent Reaction. In this stage light energy is absorbed by chlorophyll, a green substance found in chloroplasts. This stage happens inside the thylakoid membranes- which is in the chloroplast.
Stage 2: Light Independent Reaction. In this stage the absorbed light energy is used to convert ccarbon dioxide that is in the air and water from the soil into a sugar called glucose. And oxygen is the by-product.
