  • This place is so wonderful! Its beautiful
  • It makes me wonder how this place came to be
  • I'll tell you! in the funnest way possible, a story!
  • Soo, once upon a time
  • In the year 1804 after the Louisiana Purchase President Thomas Jefferson sent people to search the area. After finding the land they were quick to realize the potential of the hot springs that resided there by the 1830s there were cabins and a store built to suit the needs of visitors.
  • To Preserve the land for the public the Territorial Legislature requested the land and mountains surrounding it be set aside as federal reservation, but congress failed to pass any legislation for administering the sit. Causing people to keep building around the springs
  • Shop
  • By the mid 1800s the hot springs were being claimed by multiple citizens, so they insisted the disputes to be settled. eventually the claims turned into lawsuits so the court ruled against all claims regaining government control over the area
  • Just as the land was reclaimed as government property a destructive fire swept through the town destroying most of the south and central downtown area but leaving the Arlington and grand hotels. The people thought of this as a gift because now they had more room to build.
  • It is a shame that people stopped bathing so they had tore down some of the bath houses.
  • I enjoyed that history lesson a lot
  • And after the fire the people began to create something better than what they already had
