- Dante approaches the path atop the hill, but he is met by a she-wolf, a lion, and a leopard who stop him. He is unable to cross them.
- Oh no! These beasts will never let me cross! How am I going to find the true path?
- I wish I knew another way to find the true path.
- Oh my gosh, really? Please tell me how
- Well, it is very complicated, but I can certainly help you.
- Hey, I heard you need help to the true path. I know a way that you could get there.
- So to get to the true path, you will have to travel through hell. I will guide you through so you do not have to worry. It will be easier than trying to go around the three beasts.
- Okay, sounds good as long as you stay with me!
- Dante and Virgil are walking through the dark forest together towards the mouth of Hell.
- Virgil, I don't know if I have what it takes to travel through hell. I'm starting to think that this isn't worth it.
- Dante, you can't second guess yourself. Stop being a coward; do not be fearful about your future travel.
- Oh, that makes me feel a lot better.
- You know how I knew to find you in the forest? I was sent to you by a woman in Heaven named Beatrice. She knew about you from St. Lucia. These two women watch over you in Heaven; they are the ones who are truly guiding you through Hell.
- Dante and Virgil arrive at the gates of Hell. Upon their arrival, Dante points out the sign and its inscription. After reading the sign, they both walk through the gate into Hell.
