- People are kidnapped from their homes and sent them away from their families.
- PUNISHED
- The slaves were forced onto ships and down under the deck. They needed to stay down under for the entire ship unless the crew let them up.
- THE OTHERS
- Under the deck, there was human waste, vomit, decomposing bodies, and more different smells that made it hard for people to do things, like eating, sleeping, and more.
- WORK
- If they didn't cooperate with the guards, they would be punished, they did this to people so the person who buys that slave knows what kind of person they are. Having this shows if there are many scars, then the slave misbehaved many times.
- The guards who worked there brought in other slaves that have been a slave for a while already to explain to people that they are fine and they aren't going to be eaten. The slaves who were recently taken have gone through so much on the ship that they thought that once they got off the people were going to eat them because they were hurting them and they also looked and sounded different.
- Once the slaves got off of the ship, they were sold at a slave market and they worked for their people until they got released, or they did it for life. They didn't get paid, either, and living conditions were bad for them as the people who bought them thought of them only as a tool.
