Throught the history, farmers and people in rural areas typically did quite well durring depressions. Most having well LIVING WAGES and most were safe from FORECLOSURE.
But during the great depression, it hit these people much harder. Farmers that took out loans to buy new equipment for their land saw themselves in trouble with banks causing most of them to move to cities. Those that stayed soon found themselves in a land going through DESERTIFICATION. Turning their great farms into the great DUST BOWL. Their small homes being ravaged with BLACK BLIZZARDS from the new environment. Leaving many with poor PROPERTY VALUE's.
During the great depression, most families had to sell most of their furniture and utilities to avoid EVICTION. Most homes consisted of a table, a few chairs, and if they were lucky, a fridge, lamp or radio.
Those that weren't lucky found themselves begging for money and work.
On the outscerts of town there were Hoovervilles' these were homes made of scrap and mostly were filled with angery, stubborn, men that left their families.
Many children had no entertainment and spent their time outside. More than a few were suffering from MALNUTRITION.
