Jane Eyre, a young orphan, was in the care of her aunt Reed. Mrs. Reed had three children, so she found it unnecessary to care for Jane as her own. She would often punish Jane, as depicted in the scene above. Here Jane is being haunted by her Uncle Reed in the red room, the one in which he died.

Jane was then sent to Lowood School for Girls. It was there she met Helen Burns who unfortunately passed from tuberculosis. Burns helped Jane tremendously in finding her faith in giving and receiving forgiveness.

Eight years later, Jane finds a job at Thornfield, where she meets Mr. Edward Rochester. She quickly falls in love with him but denies her feelings because she believes he would never love her. At Thornfield Hall, Jane is Adele’s governess.

After finally confessing their love to one another, they are faced with a problem on their wedding day. It is discovered that Mr. Rochester has a wife already. However, his wife is crazy so he argues that she is not the one he loves and will never love.
After running away from Thornfield Hall, Jane is taken in by her cousin, St. John. He soon discovers that she is able to teach and offers her a position in a schoolhouse. Despite not having the necessary funding she enjoys teaching the young kids.

Jane receives news of a fire at Thornfield Hall and rushes immediately to Mr. Rochester who has now lost his eyesight and a limb. Regardless, Jane decides to marry Mr. Rochester upon hearing that his wife died in the fire. They get married, have a son, and Mr. Rochester regains vision in one eye.
