  • The king flees...
  • Hampton Court - 1528
  • Hello London! Tis I, your new king, Henry Tudor!
  • King Henry VII enters London as the new king following his victory at the Battle of Bosworth Field.
  • London - 1485
  • Two weeks later a sudden illness appears.
  • Ye Olde Doctor
  • An illness is ravaging the city...
  • Twas fine at dinner!
  • The disease causes extreme fever, sweating, and death within hours.
  • He's sweating uncontrollably
  • ...The patients sweat the life from their bodies!!!
  • News reaches Cardinal Wolsey at the royal court.
  • A sweating sickness...?
  • Unlike other epidemics, this disease begins to claim members of the royal court.
  • Your Majesty, an epidemic seems to have followed you into the castle...
  • Physicians theorize possible causes from eating too much meat, unnatural weather patterns, and bad smells.
  • A 50% survival rate results in thousands of deaths across the kingdom.
  • However, the outbreaks last only a few weeks.

  • The king's mistress contracts the disease forcing the king to flee Hampton Court.

  • The king changes residences frequently to outrun the epidemic. He isolates and refuses to see anyone, including the Pope and other heads of state.
  • I shall isolate myself until this epidemic passes.
  • As a result, isolation saves the king from the disease and he continues his reign.
