Storyboard Text

  • Loss of Māori land – through confiscation following the 1860s wars, Crown purchase and the Native Land Court – led to the displacement of large numbers of Māori. Deprived of their land, tribes were in many instances reduced to poverty, with no option but to live in overcrowded and unhygienic conditions
  • The transition from thousands of native birds and animals to New Zealand as well as lush evergreen bushes and trees, turned into a horrififc sight as forests were burnt down in bunches to create room for the pakeha. This led to extinction of many animal species in the land and the loss of homes for birds, and animals beyond.
