- We couldn't pay our debts because we were fighting a war!
- We are farmers and Revolutionary War veterans.
- We did not get paid for our war service. We were taken to court for debts we couldn't pay.
- Massachusetts is taxing us too much!
- Governor Bowdoin sent us to fight them!
- 4 of us died and 20 of us were hurt in this protest against unfair taxes.
- Here at the Springfield Federal Armory, we are facing the Governor's private militia.
- I am Daniel Shays, a farmer and veteran. I am leading this group of protestors.
- The Articles of Confederation was not enough. We needed a strong national government.
- The result of my rebellion was the US Constitution gave more powers to the states to suppress future violence. I finally got paid 5 years later!
