- It sure is storming outside. Will he make it, father? Oh, checkmate!
- The road's a torrent by now, but I think he'll be here.
- Better to let it burn.
- Does it really work? It's so hideous! Should we wish for 4 arms for me?
- Just wait. Nothing will happen by the morning.
- I wish for 200 pounds! It moved! I swear it did!
- While Herbert White and his father play a game of chess, they are awaiting the arrival of Mr. White's old friend, Morris. There's a horrible storm and they live far out in the country, but Mr. White feels confident that his friend will make it.
- No!!! Not our Herbert!
- What is the compensation? Not 200 pounds? No!!!
- As Morris recounts wild stories of being in India, he also tells the Whites about a monkey's paw that grants 3 wishes to 3 people. However, this curse was placed on the paw to teach those who use to not to mess with fate.
- The paw! Where is it? Wish our son back!
- Honey, you didn't see him. I can't do that. It's not our son anymore!
- Mr. White makes the family's first wish for 200 pounds. While he believes the paw moved in his hand, his son and wife believe that it truly must be a story from Morris.
- Open the door! Let our son in!
- Where is that paw?
- The next day, Herbert goes to work, and the Whites forget about the paw. A visitor arrives from Maw Meggins with bad news about Herbert - he has gotten caught in the machinery at work and is dead. Maw Meggins offers the Whites 200 pounds to help with funeral expenses.
- Distraught over their son's death, Mrs. White begs her husband to use the paw to wish for their son Herbert to be alive again. Mr. White is hesitant since he knows Herbert is no longer Herbert. Still, he makes the 2nd wish to bring Herbert back.
- As the Whites hear knocks increasing in frequency, Mrs. White attempts to open the door. Meanwhile, Mr. White fumbles around in the dark to find the paw. He makes his 3rd and final wish, which one can assume is to make Herbert dead and in the ground again.
