  • Hundreds of years ago in France, most people were peasants. These peasants did not have much food. But some people, the nobles and clergy, always had lots of food. They didn't earn it, they have lots of money and food just because of the family they were born in.
  • Storming of the Bastille - July 14 1789
  • The three groups of people of France got together for a meeting about France's money problems; the first estate is the clergy, the second estate is the nobles, and the third estate is the peasants. Even though there were so many peasants, they didn't have a lot of power or say in the meeting. This made the peasants very angry.
  • Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen August 1789

  • The Third Estate, the Peasants, broke into the King's Tennis Court. They promised they wouldn't leave until they were given a set of rules, saying that they would have more power and rights.
  • Royals Executed January 21 1793
  • The peasants were scared that they would be attacked by the King and his soldiers, so they attacked the Bastille Prison first. This was the first fight of the Revolution.
  • The peasants eventually made a list of rules and laws, which have to be followed. This list says that they now have more rights and more power, so they could have happier lives.
  • The King and the Queen tried to run away to bring soldiers to attack the peasants, but they were caught. They were put in prison and punished.
