  • Women's March on Versailles
  • Declaration of the Rights of Man
  • Men are born free and remain free.
  • Reign of Terror
  • The women's march on versailles occurred in October of 1789. It was caused by the anger that resulted from the rising price of bread. The women demanded that the National Assembly provide them and their families with bread and that the Royalty return to Paris. Through this march, they signaled there was about to be a change of power to overtake France.
  • Execution of Louis XVI and Marie Antionette
  • This declaration stated, "Men are born free and remain free." This gave the people of France equal justice, free speech, and free religion. It also helped create the French revolutionaries' slogan, "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity."
  • Rise of Napoleon
  • The reign of terror was when Maximilien Robespierre, a Jacobin leader who wished to erase France's past, took over France and was in charge. It was named this because the committee of public safety was beheading Robespierre's enemies and others who threatened his leadership. 40,000 people were executed during this time with about 85% being peasants, urban poor, or middle class. This was surprising considering the revolution started with the idea of improving their lives.
  • Fall of Napoleon
  • The king and queen of France were executed by guillotine for treason after monarchy was abolished.
  • Napoleon rose to power after the French Revolution cleared a path by causing an unstable France. He created a new government and eventually became emperor of France.
  • After his unsuccessful attempt at taking over the whole of Europe, Napoleon was defeated by British troops and exiled once and then a second time to a remote island where he spent the short rest of his life.
