  • My teacher taught us about matter today, but i still don't understand it.
  • What's wrong Lisa? You look confused.
  • Well, there are 3 states of matter, Solid, Liquid and Gas. Solids have a fixed shape, fixed volume and a higher density. Liquids have a fixed volume but not a fixed shape and they cannot be squished, they also have a lesser density and take the shape of their container. Gases do not have a definite shape or volume, they can fill the entire space that they are put in. The melting point is when a substance changes state from a solid to a liquid. The freezing point is the temperature at which a liquid turns into a solid. Evaporation is when a liquid turns into a gas from being heated. Condensation is when water vapor turns into a liquid from being cold. Sublimation is when a solid turns into a gas skipping the liquid stage turning directly to a gas.
  • Thanks Mia, now I understand matter but what about matter in the real world?
  • Well, I can tell you about the water cycle, the water cycle is when water from the ocean evaporates into the sky and becomes water vapor (gas) it then condenses into clouds and precipitates back to the earth like rain or snow.
