Mountain men were adventurous men who would hike in forests, trapping animals and living off the land. They would stop in Native American villages to learn survival skills and marry. They also held rendezvous' with other traders to bargain. 

People set out from Independence, Missouri to start their journey to Oregon Country. This would become known as the Oregon Trail. It was a 2,000 mile route to get to Oregon Country. Along the way, there were hardships such as sickness and rough terrain.

Manifest Destiny was the idea that the United States was destined to spread democracy and expand their territory. Manifest Destiny was used to justify white superiority, as Americans saw that their nation was the best and felt the need to spread their culture. 

The annexation of Texas angered Mexico, and Americans felt that Mexico stood in the way of Manifest Destiny. Things like these are what led up to the Mexican-American war. President Polk used invasion to declare war with Mexico, and sent Zachary Taylor to set up posts. Mexican troops clashed with the Americans here.
