Storyboard Text

  • Hello Ms.P! I didn't expect to see you here, what are you doing?
  • Why hello there Jane. I'm just observing all of the wonderful physics around us.
  • But I don't see anything physics-related here? What is there to see?
  • Well there's physics everywhere! For example, Newton's first law of motion is at work all around us!
  • What is Newton's first law?
  • Newton's first law is the Law of Inertia. It states that objects in motion will stay in motion and that objects at rest will stay resting. Take these chairs for example, they just stay sitting here at the cafe until someone comes along to use them.
  • Well I guess that makes sense. But can't I just push the chair? It will move for a bit then stop anyways, even if it was technically in motion.
  • You make a very good point Jane! A little trick to Newton's law is that there is a condition to this. The objects will continue to do what they are doing unless they are acted upon by an outside force.
  • Wow! I understand inertia and Newton's first law so much better now! Thank you so much for the mini lesson Ms.P!
  • I'm so glad you enjoyed it Jane! Have a wonderful weekend and remember: stay sciency!
