- In South Sudan, 1985 A teenage boy named Salva and his Uncle are living in a time of war. They are now in the desert and trying to get away from the fighting that was started in Salvas village. Salva lost his family and is asking his uncle to find his family for him. He is asking his uncle because his Uncle will go back to Salvas village to join and fight in the war.
- Uncle, when you go back to Sudan, you might meet my parents somewhere. You could tell them where I am. Or you could talk to those you meet, and ask where the people of Loun-Arrik are now.
- Of course I will do that , Nephew
- Six men with guns and machetes tied up Salvas Uncle. They asked him if he was with the rebels, and he answered them by telling them that he wasn´t. They laughed and shot him as Salva watched.
- Salva and the people traveling with him buried his uncle In a hole that was dug by an animal. The group didn't walk anymore that day to mourn his death.
