  • The digestive system starts with our mouth, when the food enters the mouth, saliva acts to start to break down carbohydrates thanks to amylase. After that, the food goes through our esophagus into our stomach where it gets broken down by either the muscle in your stomach or the enzyme.
  • But how does the digestive system actually work?
  • Don't worry, if your stomach hurts that means something is wrong with your digestive system, digestive system converts the foods we eat into energy for our body.

  • There are two types of digestion; Mechanical and Chemical. Mechanical digestion involves physically breaking down food substances into smaller particles to more efficiently undergo chemical digestion. Chemical digestion involves the secretions of enzymes throughout your digestive tract. These enzymes break the chemical bonds that hold food particles together.
  • Your stomach hurts probably because the ice cream haven't digested yet...
  • The final part of the digestive system is the Colon (Large Intestine), which absorbs water and salts before the remains are passed out of the rectum and anus as feces.
