My name is Henry andI'm living a secret life in Maycomb. When i was born out of wedlock in a neighboring town the black community shunned my mother Calpurnia, and if she went to the white community they'd probably burn her so she fled to Maycomb shortly after having me, where she found work with Atticus. after working with him a while she introduced me as a baby. Atticus being so generous and knowing the risk of others knowing about me, Atticus agreed to hide me from the community to keep me safe while letting Calpurnia live her life...That's where my story begins.

I was raised in the attic of the Finch's house. Calpurnia and Atticus took care of me in secret, mostly when scout and jem were gone. I know it sounds sad but living in secret has a lot of perks.

I get to play outside while the kids are at school, their trips to Mrs. Dubose gives me extra playing time. And, because of my secret i get access with some of the most exclusive people in town... Like Boo Radley.

An unlikely friendship for sure. He's white and i'm black but under our circumstances, we are equal. He's accidentally discovered me through a window, he sneaks over every night to hang out.

We spend a lot of our time watching over Scout and Jem. We were both watching from the window the time Jem got his pants stuck on the fence.

I had my mother teach me how to sew, so Boo and i mended them together. Another time we spent the day carving wax figures, I carved scout, he carved jem. And then, we hid them in a tree they recently became obsessed with

Everything changed the night i was almost discovered. One night we were in my room when we heard the door close. We knew Atticus already left to see a client. We looked out the window and saw scout and Jem running through the streets. We wanted to follow them but couldn't risk getting caught by the wandering crowd of adults, still i couldn't help but worry for their safety. What was stranger followed shortly after Scout and Jem left. We heard creaking downstairs. No one else should've been home.

It was scouts friend Dill! What was he doing in the house!? we watched from the shadows as he headed toward the bedrooms. we dashed back to the attic, avoiding all the creaky steps in the wood i had well memorized.

We spent at least an hour in total silence, just listening the familiar breathing pattern of my only friend. We waited for the sound of a door or Dill leaving. It didn't bother me to wait in the quiet, it's all i know...As seconds grew to minutes, minutes to hours, until half the night wasted away. I was nearly asleep when i heard the lock clicking down stairs, and then, the whispers of Atticus...i breathed a sigh of relief,i was safe again, free from the fear of being discovered.
