Storyboard Text

  • There are 5 types of chemical reactions and they are synthesis, decomposition, single and double replacement, and combustion.
  • Synthesis means to put things together to make a whole. In a synthesis reaction, two or more substances combine to form a single new substance.
  • Decomposition means to separate or breakdown into smaller pieces. In this reaction, one substance breaks down into two or more products. It is like the synthesis reaction but in reverse.
  • In single replacement, one element replaces another element in a compound.
  • In double replacement reaction, a compound reacts with another compound to form two new compounds.
  • Lastly, combustion, or burning, is a chemical reaction between an organic compound and oxygen gas.
